My Fiber Journey: What I Learned After Years of Constipation
I have spent years dealing with constipation issues. I have worked with a nutritionist, gastroenterologist, regular doctor, and done my own research from trusted sources like the Mayo Clinic.
The result of all this research is contained on this website. Most of the food was derived from a list created by the Mayo Clinic. I have also added a few items which I felt helped add variety to the diet while holding true to the high fiber requirement.
How much fiber to aim for
I also learned that an adult should strive for 25 to 35 grams of fiber from various sources. One should slowly increase their consumption to avoid an upset stomach.
Water matters, too
Lots of water is also recommended. I carry a bottle of water with me always and refill it as necessary.
Why it’s worth taking seriously
Knowing that a bowel that is out of control can lead to serious complications such as diverticulosis, irritable bowel syndrome, or colon cancer. These are obviously extremes but they are something to steer clear from.
A sustainable approach
It can be a hard journey, but if you use variety in your diet you can enjoy great tasting foods and still keep your system in balance.
